Meet Steve Marcia (Music Director @ Buckhead Church)
Meet Steve Marcia, our new Music Director at Buckhead Church.
He is originally from Corona, CA, where there are three “In-N-Out Burgers” all less than 10 minutes away from his old house.
He’s no stranger to Buckhead Church or North Point Ministries. Since moving to Atlanta last May, he’s played guitar onstage at all three campuses. Before joining us full-time, he was a music producer and touring musician. He’s been the lead guitarist for Phil Wickham, Mercy Me, Shane & Shane, and many others.
In addition to playing guitar onstage, he is now responsible for scheduling the band and arranging the music sets each week.
Steve has been married for four years to his wife, Lisa. Their first baby is due any day and they have two dogs. In his spare time when the weather is nice, he likes to ride motorcycles.
And, a fun fact about him is that his last name, pronounced “Mar-see,” is French, but he’s also part Japanese and Mexican.
BC Staff Spotlight: Mike Tiemann
Did you ever wonder who works during the week to create the great stuff that you see at Buckhead Church on Sundays?
We thought so.
That is why, from time to time, we are going to be tossing up a quick Q&A so you can meet some of our Buckhead Church staff. This week, we’re pleased to introduce you to…
Mike Tiemann, UpStreet Production Director
Hometown: Redwood Valley, CA
————————————————————————-
Mike, tell us exactly what you do on Sundays.
I coordinate a team of about 80 amazing volunteers who put on our large group production in UpStreet, our Sunday morning environment for K-5th graders at 9:00 and 11:00. We have three large group environments – one for every two grades. The kids start in their small groups, then they come to large group for games, worship and Bible story, and then they head back to small group to talk about what the message really means for their lives.
What are some things you do “behind the scenes” that the average attendee would not realize there is a “face” behind?
I think UpStreet large group is a bit “behind the scenes” for most attendees, since it happens while adults are in the service. But then again, it’s not behind the scenes if you’re an elementary-age kid! During the week, I could be gathering props, loading computers, making sound effects, editing curriculum, meeting with staff at other campuses, communicating with volunteers… and the list goes on. I love it because it all leads to our UpStreet mission: to guide children to put their faith in Jesus and to teach them who God is and how He wants them to live. Large group is a big part of that, and we want to make it as dynamic as possible for our K-5th graders!
How long have you been a part of North Point Ministries?
My wife and I started volunteering with Waumba Land worship at North Point in 2002. Later we volunteered with UpStreet worship. We’ve also been on three GlobalX trips to the Dominican Republic. I’ve been on staff at Buckhead for almost four years.
What did you do before coming on staff at BC?
I was an advertising copywriter for a furniture company.
Tell us about your family and/or pets.
My wife Julie and I have been married for nine years, and we have two beautiful daughters, Amelia (2) and Lily (1).
What do you do when you’re not at Buckhead Church?
Family fun!
If you had to spend one year alone in the wilderness, where would you go?
Yosemite National Park. It’s where Julie and I met, back in college. There’s nothing quite like hiking in Yosemite!
