Spotlight on Atlanta’s Homeless

Think back to January for a second.

Where were you? What were you doing? What concerned you? What were your biggest challenges?

On one of those cold days back in January, Matt Pearl, a reporter at 11Alive News, spent 24 hours at one of our Intersect partners, the Atlanta Mission. (Intersect is our church’s initiative to partner with other helping organizations to bring help and aid to our community). For him, it was an eye-opening contrast to the way that he was living out his January. I’d imagine that most of us would feel the same way. In his stay there, he was able to get a comprehensive look at the “face” of Atlanta’s homeless population. Matt shared his experience on the news this week (and in the six minute video below).

He highlights a blend of stories from the men he met. As you can imagine, many are there due to the downturn in the economy. Most are looking for jobs. Many are fighting battles on a variety of fronts.

All are looking for hope.
