On Sunday, we kick off our annual Be Rich campaign. Get ready because we are going to challenge you to do more and give more than ever before!

To prepare for Be Rich 2011, let’s take a look back at all you did as a church in 2010.

Backyard Bash Gives Our Community a “Push”

1

A crowd of over 1,000 experienced a night of music and laughs at Buckhead Church last Thursday night. Comedian Jeff Foxworthy headlined his second Backyard Bash with all proceeds going to our Intersect partners who serve families and children in our own “backyard.”

Attendees enjoyed cupcakes from Gigi’s of Buckhead, fun “backyard” games and décor, and a country music set from our Buckhead Church musicians. Foxworthy debuted on the Buckhead stage on a riding lawnmower and kept the audience captive and laughing for almost an hour.

The event raised $102,000 for eight organizations serving our city: Atlanta Mission; Atlanta Community Ministries; Buckhead Christian Ministry; Charis Community Housing; The Furniture Bank of Metro Atlanta; MedShare; Open Hand; and Woodson Elementary School.  Here is a video highlighting the life-changing work these partners do:

Thank you, thank you to everyone who attended and donated money to give our community a little “push.”

Night of Worship – October 20!

1

Every few months, we gather for a Night of Worship. On October 20 at 7:30 p.m., we’ll spend some extended time singing and celebrate communion together. We love these nights because it’s a chance for us to step away from daily routines, take a deep breath, and spend time focusing our hearts on the One who gives us life.  Here is a message from worship leader Seth Condrey on what to expect:

Night of Worship – 10/20/2011 from buckheadchurch on Vimeo.

We hope you’ll join us next Thursday to experience worship, rest, and rejuvenation!

CHILDCARE:  We will not be offering childcare for Night of Worship in order to give those that create our preschool environment a chance to simply attend a service. Because of that, we ask that you make personal arrangements for childcare.

ONLINE STREAMING:  Due to the fact that our Sunday services are now streamed from the North Point campus, it is much more difficult for us to offer a service online due to technical limitations. At some point in the future, we may be able to offer this feature more easily, but, as for now, we are unable to stream the service online. We’ve got a seat for you, though!

Calling All College Students!

2

With school back in session and football season here, it’s time to kick off the college ministry!  We have two big events coming up next week to connect with our college students at Buckhead Church.

First, starting this Sunday evening and for the next several weeks, we are serving dinner to college students after the 6:00 p.m. service in the Theater. We’d like to start gathering students from all three services to attend the 6:00 p.m. service together each Sunday night. We’re even providing a shuttle for Georgia Tech and Georgia State students.

The second event is the start of our college environment, The Living Room, this coming Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. Dinner, worship, and teaching takes place each Tuesday night on the 4th floor of the church. In case you’ve missed it in the 10B4, here’s a promo for it:

Buckhead Church, we could really use your help in connecting college students to the college ministry.  If you know a student or someone who is college age, please point them to the events above. More details can be found at www.buckheadcollege.org.

Baptism Reflections: One Year Later

0

We love celebrating baptisms and watching believers walk in obedience to Christ. Recently, Courtney Lee, who was baptized a year ago on June 27, wrote about her experience of walking through the baptism process with us.

Today marks the day one year ago that I was baptized at Buckhead Church! I accepted Christ when I was a junior in high school, but I don’t think I ever really understood what baptism meant. I knew that I didn’t have to be baptized to go to heaven, so why would I need to be dunked in water?

When I started attending Buckhead Church almost three years ago, I would constantly hear Andy and the other speakers mention baptism, and it got me thinking. A lot of my friends had already been baptized and every time I heard the word “baptism,” I felt convicted . . . like God was nudging me along. Austin, my husband, was already a member of Buckhead Church, and I knew I wanted Buckhead to be my home church too, so I decided I should be a member. Well, to be a member, I had to be baptized. Okay God, I get it now; I need to be baptized!

Although I needed to be baptized to be a member, I knew God was telling me to finally share my story with everyone and have accountability to grow even more. That was the final push I needed and I filled out my inquiry online in March. It was a long process, but they did an amazing job preparing me! I had to write my testimony of coming to Christ and then film it at the church. I was SO nervous. I hate public speaking, so this was not exciting to me!

I sat in a room with the five other people that were going to be baptized the same day, and we all practiced our stories. Instead of being nervous, I listened as I heard these amazing stories of what God had done in other people’s lives. I realized that it was nothing to be scared of. I needed to celebrate this; this was MY story and there was only one.

Well, it was now my turn to practice my story aloud and film it. Surprisingly, I only had to record it three times! The camera operators were great and made me laugh and get my mind off being nervous.

The day of my baptism came. Austin’s parents came into town for it and all my friends were going to be there! I arrived early, and the guy being baptized and I prayed and read Scripture with the pastor baptizing us. We got these awesome blue tops with matching shorts that were HUGE on me. Ha! I stepped into the water and it felt like a bath. I watched as my video played on the big screen and then BOOM, lights were on me! Okay, all I have to do is hold on tight to his arm so I don’t drown. That is simple, right? One, two, three, dip in the water, and now it’s done. It was a like a wedding. There was a lot of planning and it went by in two seconds!

That day was kind of a blur, but now that it has been a year, I can appreciate it more because I continually see what God is doing, how he has been there every step of the way, and how he will continue to be there throughout my journey.
