If you’ve ever wanted to make a difference, we can’t think of a better way to do that than through the project we have coming up. Woodson Elementary School is one of our Intersect partners and we’ve served them in various ways over the past several years. One of the ways we partner with them is by providing mentors for their students during the school year.
98 percent of their students are eligible for free or reduced lunches, which is an indication of a low-income household. Woodson is also a part of the zip code with the highest number of prison inmates in Georgia; this affects a majority of these students.
Mentoring can make a tangible, positive impact on these students’ lives. Mentoring builds self-esteem, dramatically improves academic performance, and expands horizons for children. You would be committing to visit your student at least once a month for one hour. You will even be given curriculum to go through each month. It’s that simple.
Our goal this year is to provide a mentor for each of Woodson’s students. This means that we need to register 500 mentors. This is a really big goal, and we definitely need your help to make it happen. Please spread the word to your friends and family about this opportunity as you prayerfully consider it yourself.
