Finding Community Through Serving
We’ve been in ministry as long as we can remember. Just a few months ago, we were living in Albany, Georgia. We had a home, solid jobs that we loved, friends, family, and an amazing church we served in and loved being a part of. Then God called us to move to Atlanta. Even though we knew it was coming, there was no way to prepare for all the changes and the sudden feeling of aloneness.
After making the move, we soon learned that what was missing was community. We started searching for churches. Coming from a small, family atmosphere type church, visiting the larger churches in Atlanta seemed foreign. We felt just as lonely in the places we went as we did not being a part of a church. Frustrated and desperate, we decided to visit Buckhead Church—the kind of church we never saw ourselves becoming a part of. We walked in, sat down, and I (Amber) cried with relief. We felt a sense of family even though we knew no one. We knew it was the place God had for us.
We wanted to be a part of it as quickly as possible. We wanted to meet people, get involved, and find out why God had us here, because it certainly wasn’t to just be spectators in the large service. We found ourselves at NEXT just a week or two later, where we found out all the ways we could plug in. The speaker talked about the storytellers in UpStreet, and having a music and theatre background, that sounded like something I could do. Jared signed up to find out more about InsideOut, where he later became a small group leader. After a few emails, I ended up meeting with a member of the UpStreet staff, who told me they needed a host for large group. I was willing to serve wherever I could be used, so I auditioned and was made the host of the 11:00 a.m. Warehouse. Wanting to serve together, Jared plugged in as the Warehouse audio guy.
Now we can’t imagine not serving at Buckhead Church! It gives us such a feeling of purpose. It’s so rewarding to walk through the big building and feel like a contributing part of the family. Community is such an important part of growing in our relationships with Christ, and serving has been an amazing way of building that community for us. We recently attended GroupLink and have found a small group to be a part of too. We are so grateful to have found Buckhead Church and can’t wait to find out what else God has in store!

We are so blessed to have Amber and Jared join our small group and can’t be more excited about what the Lord has done in their lives and what is yet to come – that of which will overflow into our group. Hooray for getting connected in community and for the wonderful way Buckhead church helps to make it happen!

Amber and Jared have impacted our lives so much in such a short period of time and are the perfect addition to our “family” in the Warehouse! They are so on fire for God and my husband and I love to be in community with them because they are so uplifting! We love you two! Thank you for serving with us!
