Our Prayer for the Week

On Sunday, Andy began our new series, Time of your life.  I think this series is coming at the perfect time (no pun intended.)  Life seems to be very busy for all of us, especially this time of year.  The next four weeks will be great as we look at what the Bible has to say about our time.

Our challenge for this week is to pray this prayer coming from Psalm 90:12.

“Heavenly Father, teach me to number my days that I might gain a heart of wisdom and fulfill your purpose for my life.”

What are some ways that you will remind yourself to pray this prayer this week?  (One suggestion is to follow Buckhead Church on twitter: @buckheadchurch.  We are going to twitter the prayer out daily.)

Also, I loved our baptisms Sunday.  Great stories!  More are on the way this Sunday. Thanks for being faithful to the calling God has given us as a church.  These are great days!

Grateful,

Jeff

This is my second visit to Buckhead Church. I began with the first session of “the time of your life”, and feel that I was drawn here with a purpose.

A little about me, I am a mom of a 14 year old great son, been married and divorced and married to the same man for over 25 years of my 47 year old life. I am an accomplished 17 year marketing executive, I grew up on a poor farm in northwest Georgia, in a small community baptist church, with a pastor and deacons that didn’t practice what they preached on Sunday morning! And an older generation of “tongue speakers” shouting something during the sermons from the from the front pew of the church as I watch from the choir.

I love BC so far! I have been living with Christ in my life, without worship now for many decades. This series, “Time of your life” has hit home with me, but, my question is this….

How do I know that I started and finished the day honoring God with the time he has given me?

I do include God in my life, and talk to him often… How do I know that I am doing the things he has planned for me. That even though, I pray, here I am lord, take me, direct me, and guide me in a manner that will fulfill the destiny you have planned for me… I give myself to him, I trust that he is there, but, how do I know that I am doing right….

I have made a great deal of mistakes in my life, and driven myself to exhaustion, and disappointment… I have had great triumphs and rewards… And I calk it all up to, “this is my destiny, and those within the wake are part of god’s plan!”

I want to say I never doubt God’s involvement, but, in some ways it is much like a Santa Claus – Cinderella – Shrek story!. Again, how do I know that I have given the beginning and end of my day to honoring god with the time he has given me?

I admit, it all gets better, but crisis always seems to hit again, and I ask myself… Self.. what message did you miss from god? What choice was more selfish than holistic?
