A great reminder to me
As I was watching the baptisms from this past Sunday’s 9 a.m. service, I was blown away by the story of Jason and Samantha Davenport. Hearing them tell their stories and then watching as they embraced after they were baptized was a powerful moment. I knew right then that I wanted to make sure we shared their story with our blog family.
As we were preparing their video to be uploaded, we had the fortune of finding Jason’s blog. After reading it, I was caught off guard by how emotional I was seeing the other side of the process. I mean the attendee side, not the staff or volunteer side. This IS what we do. We create environments, we celebrate life change, and we lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
Reading Jason’s word’s reminded me that a wondrous God is at work in the lives of people around us. He is moving and shaping our world and Jason reminded me that these stories are nothing to be taken for granted. They are reminders that we must never lose the wonder of what God is doing in our midst as a church. We must never lose sight that when we give, it’s not just another automatic bill pay or cash in the bucket. It’s a dollar being used to help change someone’s life. It’s not just going to serve at Buckhead Christian Ministry for a few hours because it’s a good way to spend our time. It’s that those few hours are a part of changing someone’s life. It’s not just a smile and a generous tip to the barista at Starbucks or our server at On the Border. It’s having that “something” that makes people wonder what’s different about us. There are people around us that God is missing, people who he is longing to be in a relationship with, and we have the incredible honor to be a part of what he’s doing.
Jason was a great reminder to me. These moments don’t just happen and EVERY single one of them should be celebrated and remind us that God has not blessed Buckhead Church with success. He has blessed us with HUGE and AMAZING potential.
