Our Church is Small. The Potential is Big.
Whenever people comment on how large Buckhead Church is, I often wonder, “Compared to what?” It all depends on what you use as a comparison.
I guess this is why I’ve always thought of Buckhead Church as a really, really, really small church. I believe the comparison we should use is the number of people who do NOT attend a church, here or anywhere in this community. That number, as you’ve probably heard me say from time to time, is 300,000. And growing.
Please don’t fly by that number — 300,000 people who do not go to church, many of whom probably aren’t followers of Christ, all within ten miles of here.
In comparison to 300,000 people, our church is small but the potential is enormous. I was reminded of this last week when I was shown this photo.
Buckhead Church is near the bottom right. The buildings, cars, streets and cityscape reminded me yet again that our potential impact is massive. Our current impact is a good start, but it’s nowhere near where it needs to be.
Will you join me today in praying that God would allow Buckhead Church, His Church, to reach its full redemptive potential?
I won’t stop working and praying until we have. I hope you won’t either.
Jeff

That puts it in perspective! Even from 1100 miles away, I continue to pray for Buckhead Church and for Buckhead!

That is such a great perspective. In Francis Chan’s Book, Crazy Love, he draws a similar comparison to how small we are in terms of the universe and galaxy. His statement is that it is somewhat arrogant for us to not consider how many are around us.
Christians should continue to focus on the opportunity and stop counting the numbers.
