This is a quick update from Brian Smith, lead pastor of Cumberland Church in Nashville. He’s also passed along a voicemail from a person expressing her appreciation as well. Because of your support, many people in Nashville are experiencing a tangible hope.
“Thank you to all of you who helped Cumberland Church and Nashville since the floods. The outpouring has been nothing short of amazing and makes me ever more thankful to be a part of the North Point family! At this point we have received money, gift cards or volunteers from Buckhead, Browns Bridge, North Point, Rock Point, Southside, Wiregrass, and Ridge Church, as well as from others. We have directed the money to a couple families severely impacted. One woman named Lola lost her son tragically 3 months ago and then her house and cars in the flood, with no insurance. The money is quite a blessing to her.
When we received the gift cards we tried to think of the best way to get them out to those in need. We happened to be in the Sunday morning series, “I Want to be Great,” and the bottom line was about being great by playing a supporting role in someone’s life, like Jonathan did for David. This was a perfect opportunity for our people to play that supporting role in someone’s life by passing on a gift card to someone impacted by the flood and using it to build a relationship. We didn’t care if they said it was from Cumberland at all and even let the church attenders know that the cards had been supplied by our wonderful friends from Atlanta and other Partners around the country. So we handed out about 300 gift cards that morning and told our people to go bless someone. You guys all made that possible!
There have been many stories of thanks that have come in from the people who took the gift cards to distribute for flood relief as well as those who received money and volunteer services on their homes. SInce you have most likely seen pictures by now, we thought this voicemail might give you a representative taste of the gratitude felt by many.
Although the woman on the voicemail thanks Cumberland Church, we want to send all those thanks on to you, since you are really the ones to make it possible.
Thanks so much for being generous. Know that you have made it possible to build bridges to lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
