What’s missing in ch__ch?
No. Not U-R.
Usually, it’s F-U-N.
Granted, chfunch isn’t a word, but fun is often a forgotten dynamic in creating a worship experience. Typically, most churches aim for reverence.
I’m all for reverence, but fun is much more disarming. If you create a fun experience up front in the service, the crowd will be much more engaged throughout their time with you.
An example of this is the following video we played at Buckhead Church from Tripp and Tyler near the beginning of Sunday’s service. There really wasn’t a point, other than just having fun.
Many people push back on the idea of fun in church, and instead argue for reverence. My experience is that fun leads to engagement, which ultimately leads to an opportunity for greater reverence at the end of a service.
We’ll discuss and show this in greater detail at next week’s Drive Conference. http://www.driveconference.com/ In the meantime, have some fun. It might be just the thing that’s missing in your ch__ch.

I’m going to make a controversial statement. Often “reverence” is more about the pride of trying to look holy than approaching our Daddy (English version of what Jesus called Him) with respect and delight.
If your worship is stale and boring, that’s not reverence; that’s “acting holy” instead of being a fool, like David, for the Lord.

Thanks for posting the video! I missed part of it at last week’s service, so I’m glad to be able to catch the whole thing.
BTW, “chfunch” may not have been a word, but I can assure you it is one now! And I am rather fond of it already…
Well, back to getting ready for the 6pm online chfunch service. Thanks again!

Don’t knock those churches that respect reverence. I have noticed that people that attend the “less fun” churches seem to get alot more out of the services, enjoy them very much, and actually have a clue about salvation and who God really is. Not some dumbed down version of God, but the God of the Bible. And, who is to say that actually teaching the Bible is not fun?
