My 2010 Reading List

A new year brings a new reading list.  I hope this helps you as you develop yours. Thanks for your suggestions a few days ago on the blog.  Some of you have asked what criteria are used to develop this list.  First, I try to focus on these areas:  marriage, fatherhood, leadership, biographies, spiritual/church, fitness, finances and creativity. There are books on the list that aren’t in these categories but this is how I start. Then, I ask for suggestions from friends.  After this, I start browsing the bookstore beginning in October.  It’s a hobby. Granted, maybe a boring hobby, but one I enjoy.

When I finish a book, I try to provide some insights I learned on my goodreads account. So feel free to stop by on my goodreads account anytime. www.goodreads.com. You’ll find my ‘10 list there. Also, please comment here with your 2010 list. (By the way, the Bible is a non-negotiable. It doesn’t show up on my list because it’s always there.)

I hope you enjoy my 2010 list. Let me know what your is, and Happy New Year!

Jeff

    Jeff,
I enjoyed your reading list for 2010. Thanks for turning me on to goodreads. I usually just keep my reading list on a note card but this seems so much easier. I created my 2010 reading list at http://www.goodreads.com/review/list/3082115-eric-taylor?shelf=2010-reading-list . My reading plan has included a Ministry book (sharpen the saw), a Leadership book, a Biography, an Innovative/Stretch your thinking book, Parenting/Marriage, and a Wildcard (which can include anything that I’d like to read at that moment). I’m a bit of a cheater for some of the business books though because I use the book summary subscriptions. Thanks again for sharing your reading list and thanks for all you do to sharpen us as leaders.

I concur with Eric. Your list is solid, as is yours Eric. I am a young reader so my list is not that big but here it is: http://www.goodreads.com/review/list/3083512?shelf=2010-reading-list Thanks Jeff for the heads up on getting a reading list ready!

Thanks for posting this list Jeff. I’m a 34 year old father of three and read a lot. I’ve always gotten a great deal out of the books I’ve read from your list.

To kick off 2010, the CXO team conducted a survey asking “what is the best spiritual development book read in the last 10 years?” The results can be viewed at http://www.cxostaffing.com/CXOBlog.

Eric – thanks. You’re really going to enjoy goodreads. Let me know.
    Marcus – that’s a strong list!
Bryan – so many fathers don’t study how to be a better father. You’re to be commended for doing so. Way to go.
Mark – that’s a great question and great answers.

One tip — try to get off to a strong reading start in January. It will help you with the rest of the year.

    Jeff
