It’s hard to believe yesterday was our next to last Sunday to gather together in 2009. It’s been an incredible year. Stay tuned for more details as we take a look back on 2009 in a few days, here on the blog.
As for yesterday, how cool was the pre-service Christmas music? As one person put it on twitter, “chilling in the auditorium at Buckhead Church, sipping coffee and listening to amazing music. Love it!” Me too.
The feedback we’re getting on this series by Andy is, as usual, incredible. Yesterday, the defining moment in the talk was when Andy said, “David is the man most closely associated with Jesus in the Scriptures and he is the best example of a sinner in need of a Savior.” The gift of Christmas summed up in one sentence. Powerful.
But it’s not just about the adults. One of the fastest growing ministries we have is our pre-school environment called Waumba Land. (Waumba means ‘Creator’ in Swahili.) Jill Wooten took a photo of what the kids were learning in Waumba yesterday. I love it that our leaders don’t babysit children there. They lead them.
Yesterday afternoon, I drove up to North Point and spoke to the volunteers of UpStreet our environment for elementary students. Once again, I walked away amazed at the level of talent, commitment and potential God has blessed us with at North Point Ministries. Our environments for children are SO important. Jesus placed a high value on children. While the disciples tried to prevent children from visiting with Jesus one day, He rebuked them and said, “Let the children come to me.”
If you want to start a movement to change the world, you start with children. You introduce them to the love of their Heavenly Father and Savior. You point them to Luke 2:52 and encourage them to grow up like Jesus did. Making the wise choice. Trusting God. And treating others the way they want to be treated.
On Sunday, I was reminded once again that we have such HUGE potential as a church. We’re not even close to reaching that potential, but I believe we took another step toward it yesterday.
How about you? What were you reminded of on Sunday?
Jeff

Simply blown away. The message showed me that no matter how good or bad I may be I am still viewed by God as one of His Beloved. No matter how often or how hard I stumble God’s promise will never be broken. We are His chosen people and he has called on us. Never have I viewed Christmas as a time to celebrate God’s promise until now and I am so thankful that this truth has been brought to light. The worship on Sunday was AMAZING, but the truth of the message is what has me thinking right now about how thankful and blessed I am to be one of God’s children and loved by the Creator of the Universe and as we learned on Sunday His love will NEVER leave us.
