“Together we get smart.”
Monica Little, of Little and Company, a branding firm, is a big believer in creative collaboration.
“During the discovery process (of an idea),” she says, “we collaborate with everybody. Internal teams, client teams and end users all help illuminate the situation. Together we get smart.”
I was thinking about this last week and wondered why churches don’t have a systematic, collaborative creative process to help each other. There are a lot of great ideas out there that are rarely shared systematically. What happens is that we look at each other’s websites finding ideas there, which is fine, I guess. But what if we were more proactive and collaborated together on the front end of the ideation process?
I mentioned this to Carlos Whittaker, our Service Programming Director, and he thought it was a great idea. Specifically, we are talking about utilizing the internet to develop a systematic, collaborative process for Easter-which is only three months away. We’re not sure what this looks like right now, but if you’re interested, comment here and we’ll get back to you.
We can’t promise we’ll be able to include everyone because we’re not sure what the process looks like at the present time. But I promise that you will be contacted and informed of what’s happening.
Let us know.
Thanks,
Jeff

I’d be happy to help in any capacity for which I can serve.

i would welcome the opportunity to participate. i learn better in community, and generate much better ideas when pushed by others. i’m in.

Would love to participate from here in LV. Funny to read your post as I had breakfast this morning with five other church leaders who share the responsibility of creativity in their context. Part of our conversation was to discuss how to we actually collaborate rather than just borrow/steal/adapt others ideas. In any case, I’m in.

how can the River Church participate?
January 24, 2009 at 10:45 am

I’m with Michael… this sounds like a great idea. Elevation did something somewhat similar with their open source Christmas 2 years ago, and it got great results.
I’m in…

Jeff, I’d love to participate. I think collaboration is great for the Kingdom. Count me in!
January 24, 2009 at 10:49 am
I’ve talked with Jesse Phillips from Catalyst about the same thing.
My first thought was, “Why doesn’t something like this already exist?” Because there is definitely a need for it.
I would love to participate.
Been looking for a think-tank group of collaborators for a while. Me and a few of the guys from the live production team at Courageous Church in Atlanta are looking for as much collaboration as we can get.
January 24, 2009 at 10:51 am
I’d love to be a part of this. Collaboration only helps all of us get better and more creative. Count me in.
January 24, 2009 at 10:52 am
Love to be a part
January 24, 2009 at 10:54 am

January 24, 2009 at 10:55 am
I would love to join
January 24, 2009 at 10:56 am
I’d love the opportunity to join in this collaboration and offer anything I can.
January 24, 2009 at 10:58 am
color me in.
January 24, 2009 at 10:59 am
This is an awesome idea. I’ve been wrestling with how to create fresh Easter ideas, especially considering how our church can easily slip into doing the same traditional ideas every year. I’d love to be a part of this.
January 24, 2009 at 11:02 am
I’m would salivate at the chance to participate. Actually I already I am. Tell me where to go. What to do.
January 24, 2009 at 11:03 am
Love it!
And what a great idea. I’d love to join in however I can. (And I might co-opt the idea for my own think tanks I host in west michigan!)
January 24, 2009 at 11:03 am
I think this is a great conversation to have. Too often we construct Easter in a way that appeals to Christians…we need to find a way to tell the story to those who don’t already know, believe and are moved by it.
Let me know how we can help!
January 24, 2009 at 11:04 am
We’d love to participate.
January 24, 2009 at 11:05 am
i would totally love to be a part of this.
i am part of our creative team that is developing our easter service.
collaboration of ideas would really help.
January 24, 2009 at 11:10 am
I think this is a fantastic idea. No sense keeping all our ideas to ourselves if the end goal is that the Church at large be helped and changed. I would love to help from here in Mississippi if that’s possible.
January 24, 2009 at 11:10 am
Count me in. Two heads are better than one. Family Ministry is a big engine at our church so, in addition to Easter service planning, we are looking at other community opportunities to meet people where they are prior to Easter. Going to do a “Big Bunny Party” the week before Easter on our grounds. Structure it as a community event to invite everyone. Fun, games, photos, etc. All cappd with a multimedia skit geared toward kids pre-school through 4th grade to help them bridge Easter Eggs and Bunnies back to Jesus. We want to create relationships with people in the community and we think this is just one of many ways to do it. (We did a Jingle Jam event in December 2007 and had 2500 peopel show, 25% did not have a church home from what we can tell).

i’m in.
January 24, 2009 at 11:14 am
Even if only as a spectator, I’d love to be able to join the party.
January 24, 2009 at 11:31 am
I’d love to be a part. We’re always interested in new learning and discovery methods… And I’ve got nothing for Easter, yet…
January 24, 2009 at 11:33 am
Yes, please. I would love to participate. I’m a solo pastor in a smaller church and would love the chance to collaborate for a change rather than have it all on me alone (like normal).
Hope to be included!
January 24, 2009 at 11:36 am
Great idea fellas. I’d love to dive in and help generate some doozies.

Yep – very interested.

Would love to be involved. Great idea…why haven’t we stopped competing long enough to do it before???

I would love to be in on it! Sounds like a long overdue and fabulous idea. I am set designer and stage director for Anthem Church in Gainesville,Fl. (newly launched NP strategic partner) It would be an awesome opportunity to pull along side.
January 24, 2009 at 10:17 pm
I forwarded this post to our Lead Pastor (Brian Bloye) and his response was, “Do it!”
I’m sure some of our church plants would love to take part as well. (Michael up there near the top is one of them.)

January 26, 2009 at 6:13 am
open source church. mmmmm hmmmm. I love it.
January 26, 2009 at 10:40 am
Yep, that is right on! I and my programming team for LifePoint Church would love to be in the mix, too. Wonder if there is a way to have a virtual, digital creative board and we all can have our own bright colored index cards with virtual sharpies to use. Sounds fun!
January 26, 2009 at 11:55 am
This sounds incredible (does it explain Henderson’s tweet this morning?). Please pull me from my normally left-brained routine.
