Night for Africa

Many of you from Buckhead Church have participated with a short-term mission trip this year to Kenya. The partnering organization was 410 Bridge led by our friend Lanny Donoho. They have a great fundraising event coming up very soon. Check it out below.

The 410 Bridge is excited to announce the 2008 Night for Africa! Jeff Foxworthy and Lanny Donoho will co-host this benefit event featuring The Daraja Children’s Choir and Steve Fee. The night will be one of joy, music, laughter, and hope. You will see first hand what people are doing about the plight in Africa and have an opportunity to get involved. Mark your calendars for Friday, October 10 from 8:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. at the Gwinnett Arena. Tickets are $24.00 and can be purchased at www.410bridge.org/nightforafrica.php

KidVenture:Pajama Jam on UpStreet

So why was everyone wearing pajamas to church this past Sunday? Well, it’s all about an event on UpStreet we like to call KidVenture. All of our elementary-age kids – and all our amazing leaders – wore their pajamas to church! It was a blast!

KidVenture is a fun event offered twice a year with one specific focus – to allow UpStreet kids and their small group leaders to connect. Usually it’s held outside of UpStreet (past KidVentures have been a big-screen movie in the KidStuf Theater, and Jump ‘n’ Slide in the main auditorium). This time, we had our Pajama Jam during regular UpStreet on Sunday morning. It was a GREAT success!

In small group, the kids and their leaders ate chocolate sprinkle donuts, and each group came up with a name and Bible verse for the year (one example: Faithilicious). They also painted pillowcases and played get-to-know-you games. In large group, they danced and sang to some great, high-energy music, and they played a game show called “Do You Know It All?” The kids surprised us with their knowledge of UpStreet song lyrics… and the names of all three Jonas Brothers. (OK, so that was an easy one.)

Thank you to our wonderful volunteers, who were willing to come to church in their PJs to make it a Sunday no one will ever forget! And if you were wondering about that person next to you in “big church” wearing PJ pants… trust us, they were bringing the FUN on UpStreet!

KidVenture: A Pajama Jam on UpStreet

If you have a kiddo in Kindergarten through 5th grade, don’t forget that THIS Sunday, September 28, is a pretty important day! It’s KidVenture on UpStreet. What is KidVenture, you ask? KidVenture is an event created solely for the purpose of allowing our awesome small group leaders to hang out and build strong relational connections with their kids. We know that the group that plays together stays together. Normally, we plan KidVenture events OUTSIDE of Sunday morning. But this time, we decided to shake things up a bit. After all, what better way to make sure everyone attends KidVenture than to plan it on a Sunday morning?So, here’s the 411. We’re putting on a huge Pajama Jam on UpStreet. That’s right. Just roll your kids out of bed and bring ‘em to church in their PJ’s! Make sure you come to your regular UpStreet hour (9:00 or 11:00) so that your kids can connect with their small group leader and all their friends. We’ve got a completely cool morning planned, and we KNOW your kids won’t want to miss it!And if you don’t have kids but happen to see an adult or two in main service with their PJ’s on, pat ‘em on the back and say “Thank you!” These are the people who’ve committed to giving up an hour each week to teach kids about how much God loves them. We think our UpStreet volunteers are the coolest on the planet!Kids, we hope to see you all on Sunday and please don’t forget to brush your teeth!

The Other Side of the World Says Hello

This week we have had a great time at the European Partners conference in Slovenia.  Our team from Estonia traveled to Slovenia on Tuesday morning and includes Peep our Pastor, Innar one of our elders, Daniel our youth pastor and myself.   The schedule has been very relaxed with lots of time for sharing and getting to know the other leaders from Bosnia and Herzegovin, Moldova, Romania, Slovakia and Macedonia.  Having the opportunity to learn what God is doing in all these different places has been very encouraging.

The Global X team has been great at hosting this event. It has been one of the most meaningful and challenging conferences I can remember. It is my hope that the relationships between the different countries would increase and we could have the opportunities to help each other in fulfilling the missions of our churches.

On behalf of everyone here we would like to say thanks to everyone at Buckhead Church for your prayers, encouragement and involvement in all of these places.  Because of your love and generosity lives are changing. This wouldn’t be possible without you.
