We Remember

Memorial Day has long been observed as a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation’s service. We would like to extend an opportunity to those of you who have lost loved ones in service to our country. Tell us about them. Who were they to you, and why did you love them? Make a comment below, and we will remember with you.

I’d like to tell you about Brett Hershey.  My husband and I went to college with Brett at Indiana University. brett.jpgWe were all involved in the same college ministry. Brett was easily the kindest guy either of us knew. He smiled constantly, was always willing to help, and loved to make you laugh with him. He had an unwavering faith. You knew quickly that Brett really loved his God.

Brett served in the National Guard. He died in Afghanistan about three years ago when the vehicle he was in drove over a land mine.  His best friend, Dave Fladung, built a great website about Brett where I just watched a video of him goofing around with a fellow soldier, singing to the radio. It was good to see that smile and hear that laugh again. He was so full of life and fun! We miss you Hersh. www.rememberhersh.com

I’ll be remembering my hero, mentor, and cousin, Lt. Timothy Kehler, an Air Force fighter pilot who was killed in 1986 when his Phantom F-4E crashed in Ocala National Forest during a training flight.

Amber, thanks for sharing! God shines thru Brett in the video even now. How blessed we are to have men and women like him sacrificing their lives to protect our freedom.
