Faith, Hope and Luck

3

Sunday, we begin a new, five-part series with Andy entitled Faith, Hope and Luck. We’re doing something crazy for the morning services of this series. Andy will be here live. We hear other churches have live communicators so we’re going to give it a shot.

The promo for the series is here.

Who are you going to “Just Ask” to Buckhead this Sunday for the start of this series?

Sunday in UpStreet

2

Sunday we learned that you can still have joy when things are bad. In Large Group, the story of Paul and Silas was a powerful reminder of this important truth. Paul and Silas actually sang praises to God while in jail, stayed when they could have escaped, and then led the jailer to Jesus. Wow. What an example!

In Small Group the kidchoice.jpgs got to bring JOY to some people who need it by making cards. The cards were SO fun to read – and it is obvious how many of these kids understand that Joy comes from God, and the importance of trusting Him. As we were looking over the cards this morning it just made us all so thankful for the way EACH PERSON on UpStreet is impacting these kids. We hope that rejoice.jpgyou can see every Sunday the great things God is doing through you. Small Group continued with some honest discussion about what is hard and why we can still have joy. A few of you have shared with us already that some great conversations came out of Sunday..anyone have anything else to share? We love feedback from you all on the “front lines”.

North Point

0

I spent Sunday at our Alpharetta campus starting a two-part series called “What Went Wrong?”   I have a hunch that most people who attend Buckhead have no idea what the generous folks at North Point did to help start our campus.   When Buckhead was starting out, North Pointers gave $3 million to help renovate and lease the Harris Teeter grocery store, our previous location.  That’s right.  They gave money to a church that most of them have never attended.

That’s being Kingdom-minded.  No wonder God continues to bless the folks at North Point.   They continue to set an incredible example of generosity, humility and grace.  I was reminded of this yet again today while I was in Alpharetta.  So many people came up to me excited and encouraged about the stories they have been hearing about you, Buckhead Church.

May we continue to be faithful stewards of their confidence, generosity and support.

Readers, I need an update.

11

Earlier this year, many of us on the Buckhead blog committed to read more, especially the Bible.  Since we’re over three months into 2008, I thought I would check in and see how you’re doing.  Here are a couple of questions I would like to hear you answer.

1.  Has your time reading the Scriptures increased since the beginning of the year?  If so, what has been the impact?

2.  What else have you read from January 1 – April 11?

I’ll go first.  Here are my answers.

1.  The system of reading the Bible for “depth not distance” which I spoke about the first Sunday of the year has continued to provide some rich times with the Lord.  I am currently going through the book of Luke.  There are days when the very first verse is all I need to read. It’s that powerful.

2.  I am currently reading Judgment: How winning leaders make great calls by Warren Bennis and Noel Tichy.  I’m only 40 pages in but so far it’s been great.

Here’s what I’ve read thus far in ‘08.  I still have a long way to go.

•    The Autobiography of Martin Luther King, Jr. by Martin Luther King, Jr. and Clayborne Carson
•    The Preacher and the Presidents: Billy Graham in the White House by Nancy Gibbs and Michael Duffy
•    Your God is Too Safe by Mark Buchanan
•    Creativity: Flow and the Psychology of Discovery and Invention by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi
•    UnChristian. What a New Generation really thinks about Christianity…and why it matters by David Kinnaman and Gabe Lyons
•    Getting Things Done by David Allen
•    The 4:8 Principle by Tommy Newberry
•    Becoming a Coaching Leader by Daniel Harkavy.
•    The Year of Living Biblically by Al Jacobs
•    The Three Signs of a Miserable Job by Patrick Lencioni
•    .Me, Myself & Bob: A True Story About Dreams, God, and Talking Vegetables by Phil Vischer
•    Nurturing the Leader within your Child by Tim Elmore
•    Same Kind of Different as Me by Ron Hall and Denver Moore
•    The Shack by William P. Young
•    One Christmas in Washington.  Roosevelt and Churchill forge the Grand Alliance by David J. Bercuson and Holger H. Herwig

Be “More Great”

1

As most of you may know, we recently did a series at Buckhead Church entitled I Want to be Great. The main purpose of this series was to encourage and challenge the Buckhead Church community to meet the needs of others by choosing to step up and actively do something to serve others. The Singles team has decided to follow this lead by challenging the single adults in our community to ask, “What can we do for our city?” “What can we do to bring CHANGE, HOPE, and JUSTICE to OUR city?”

On April 19, we are inviting singles from all three campuses to be part of the answer to that question. We are inviting you to “be GREAT” and to join us for a unique event entitled do.justice.

dojustice_slidebuckhead.jpg

do.justice will kick off with breakfast at Buckhead Church at 9 a.m. From there we will go out to the nine organizations we have partnered with to serve. Service opportunities include tasks such as: sorting, cleaning, childcare, meal preparation and delivery, landscaping, and construction. Each project will last for about two hours and will end with a group celebration to recognize all that has been accomplished that morning.

Spots are limited and registration for the event and your service project is required. Go online at www.buckheadchurch.org/dojustice to sign up!

By the way, everyone who comes gets this killer T-shirt!!
