Calling All Overcoats

6

Hey BCers. Over the next ten days we have a great opportunity to help Atlanta Union Mission’s Project Overcoat. (See yesterday’s blog for more details.)

Here’s what I’m challenging you to do. Go through your closets and find those coats (or blankets) that are simply taking up room. Grab them and head to your nearest Kroger. There, at the Customer Service counter, you will find cardboard boxes. Drop your coats and/or blankets in there, where they will then be taken to Atlanta Union Mission and given to those in need.

It’s a win-win deal. You help people who need coats for the winter. And you clean up your closet, which you’ve been promising yourself to do for quite some time now.

Project Overcoat ends this month. Don’t delay. In fact, just to add a little extra incentive, I will send a free copy of our new music CD, Louder than Creation, to the first 10 people who drop off their coats and then respond here on the blog.

Ready. Set. Go.

Beyond the Four Walls

1

Check out this short clip from Friday’s Fox 5 newscast In the background you will notice Deborah Wade and her small group from Buckhead Church hard at work supporting Atlanta Union Mission’s “Project Overcoat.”

Deborah and her small group are yet another example that “it’s not about Buckhead Church. It’s about bringing the love of Jesus to Buckhead and beyond.” By the way, Buckhead small groups like Deborah’s contributed over 2,932 hours of community service in 2007. This equates to 366 eight-hour work-days. That’s a leap year of community service, all in the name of Jesus. (And this doesn’t even include the Christmas “Be Rich” initiative.)

You all are living proof that a church shouldn’t be restricted to what happens within the four walls of a building. Way to go Buckhead!!!

Services Cancelled

16

Hi folks. We decided to go ahead and cancel. One of our primary concerns is for our volunteers and staff. As you may know, they leave their homes well before 6 a.m. to arrive at the church. We are concerned that the road conditions that early in the day could prove to be hazardous for them.

Better safe than sorry.

So, we’ll shift all of the exciting things we had planned for tomorrow to next Sunday. In the meantime, enjoy the snow.

Jeff

ps-Fusion is also cancelled tomorrow night.

Do you have time?

4

The average person lives 40 million minutes. They spend 1.5 million minutes in the bathroom, roughly 1 million minutes on the phone, but just 300,000 minutes with God.

How often do we convince ourselves that something can wait because, “I’ve got time“? Others of us often wonder “if only I had more time.“ We spend more time figuring out what time it is or how to manage our time than we do trying to leverage the time we have. We have missed the true value of time . . . the value God places on our time. What would it look like to leverage our time in a way that would honor God?

7|22 kicked off the New Year last night with a brand new series entitled RE:PURPOSED with Jarrett Stevens. He unpacked Luke 6:12-19, reflecting on the idea of leveraging our time for the glory of God. Jesus spent the majority of His time in one of three ways: time alone with God, time in community with the disciples, or time ministering to those in need through teaching and healing. Jarrett challenged us to reflect on our own lives over the next 90 days and how we spend our time by using a portion of it to dig into the life of Jesus as described in the gospels.

If you missed us last night, you can catch the whole night, including the worship at www.722.org.If you are a post-college single adult and are interested in hearing more about leveraging your life for Christ, 7|22 is now meeting every Tuesday night at 7:30 PM in the Buckhead Church auditorium. Join us the next three weeks for the remainder of this series, RE:PURPOSED.

Until then, let us know what you think it looks like to leverage your time for God.
